WEIRD WONDERFUL WORLD Picnic Day by Tiong Bahru Bakery
We spent a lovely afternoon at the Botanic Gardens today for the Weird Wonderful World Picnic Day by Tiong Bahru Bakery event. With a toddler and slightly sickie baby in tow, it was hands down a pretty stress free way to have some quality family time.
Little Monchichi and Mommy.
If you haven't already preordered picnic "buckets" and are planning on getting one at the event, good luck! Just kidding (actually no I'm not). The lines are UBER long, so we just went the a la carte route and dumped all the food into our makeshift bucket - the ever trusty baby bag. Bring your own picnic blanket as well it will make life SO much easier when trying to fence off some territory to let the babes crawl around and also kick back and have some champers.
Freshly squeezed O.J. always puts a smile on this little guy's face.
What can you expect at this thing? An array of really yummy food items- from sandwiches and pastries from Tiong Bahru Bakery, fish sliders from Open Farm Community, gluten free goodies from Open Door Policy, and fresh squeezed *real* juice for the kiddos as well. Most importantly, there is MOMMY JUICE. Lots and lots of it. Some Breton apple cider and a side of rose please, thank you!
No shoes. Lots of sweat.
I have to say, the Singapore Botanic Gardens is the perfect venue for WEIRD WONDERFUL WORLD. The Palm Valley area (map) is spacious, has loads of shaded areas and most importantly has loads of SAFE space for kids to run around. Literally, I was able to hawk eye every single one of Alfie's zippy movement's from the comfort of our little corner of grass. And unlike other similar events, there was enough space for everyone to have a nice little corner without feeling like you are encroaching on someone else's territory.
Donuts and hoops for days.
There are loads of games for kids to engage in like Giant Jenga, Twister. If you prefer an instructor led activity, there is flower wreath making, painting with fruit, yoga or sound bath meditation as well. But for Alfie, the most exciting thing was running around with the other kids, collecting big blow up pool floats and essentially creating a bouncy castle. Kids are super resourceful. Respect.
Literally, these kids found communal pool floaties from the four corners of the Earth and dragged them all conveniently right in front of our little area. Front row seat to the mayhem, sure! Why not? (Unclear what the wood platforms were for, but a responsible adult did remove them lest some child decided to nosedive straight into it.)
Even Teddy had a little go at the donut!
Towards the end of our stay at Weird Wonderful World, Ovaformula came out and played some funky beats that really got everyone moving. Both Alfie's and Teddy's ears perked up when they heard the cowbells and little tushies started bustin' moves. A jungle beat in the actual (manicured and tamed) jungle?! I dig it. These guys play all over the city, you can often find them at different events at shopping malls, The Esplanade, or Clarke Quay.
The party really got started when Ovaformula took the show on the road enticing a congo line of moms and babies to join them.
All in all, an exceptional family event that littles, mediums and bigs can all enjoy. As Daddy Snuggs put it, "there is no way this afternoon wouldn't put a smile on someone's face."
